“We already saw on Thursday that the situation is difficult like in Bahrain, or even worse as I used to be very quick here. It doesn’t make sense for me to push to the limits in order to take 15th or 17th place. It’s no point to risk a collision. If I was at the front and was fighting for top positions it would make sense, but not in such situation. The car is very difficult to drive, we lack grip and that’s it” said Robert Kubica.

“Maybe I could achieve more but I was released from the garage in the wrong moment. On the outlap there were 4 cars in front of me and 2 behind. We have problems with heating up the tyres even with 30 degrees Celsius temperature, so that was a problem. I had much more grip on soft tyres when the red flag was waved. The car was handling much better then. It’s a shame because we could have better time. But it’s small difference whether we are 14th or 17th”.

“We may be lucky tomorrow but there are many cars in front of us and our pace is very poor. If 15 cars go off the track or have some failure then we can win but even then it’s not that certain. Even if everything goes well, we won’t be much faster that now.

“We are a strong team but we have to realise that we are not that high on the grid like we think. We need to look at what happens more realistically. Try to adapt and keep working. We’ve had problems for a very long time, in fact since the middle of the last season. I think that Mario will have something more to say on this subject.”

Comunicado de prensa de BMW con las reacciones de pilotos y staff:

Nick Heidfeld: “Obviously this is extremely disappointing. We made a lot of changes after Thursday’s free practice and even more changes after this morning’s session, although this is always a bit risky shortly before qualifying. But we knew we hadn’t much to lose. Actually it was rather a change for the worse than for the better, but it didn’t really make a big difference anyway. It is frustrating when you go to the absolute limit and take every risk, especially here on this special circuit, and you still end up nowhere. Currently we don’t know what’s wrong. In Barcelona we made a step forward, but here we are way behind expectations.”

Robert Kubica: “So far we have only had difficulties. We struggled on Thursday and again this morning. I had a very bad out lap with a lot of traffic. As a result my tyres cooled down a lot. However, the overall performance of the car is not good enough. We have to realise we are bad. We have to adapt to the situation and we have to work very hard now.”

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): “The qualifying result reflects the problems we already faced in free practice here in Monaco. No matter which set-up or on what tyre compound – none of our cars were able to achieve the necessary grip. Our data shows the tyres never reached their operating temperatures. Positions 17 and 18 are disappointing. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”

Willy Rampf (Head of Engineering): “Monaco is a special track for which you do special preparation work. But, despite several set-up changes, we never found an acceptable grip level and car balance. So far this has been a poor performance from us. The drivers tried everything and didn’t make mistakes, but our cars were simply too slow. Now we have to start to figure out the reason and begin to solve the problems before Istanbul.”
